We’re a little sad to see Tazti (pronounced “tasty”) at the bottom of the voice recognition software review. The program is very simple and has a lot of heart (insomuch as a collection of 1s and 0s can have heart) making it fun and easy to use. But it’s that same simplicity that drags the program down in the rankings.
Tazti isn’t designed to be just a command voice recognition system, meaning there are no dictation capabilities, and as far as we can tell no plans to include that any time soon. While Tazti does what it does well, we feel that in order to be truly useful, voice recognition software needs to include a dictation mode. Many users of voice recognition software are interested in dictating their documents, the ability to navigate programs with their voice is just a bonus. Because of this trend, we couldn’t justify Tazti ranking higher than products with dictation modes.
That being said, Tazti is very useful for those who just want a quick way to navigate their computer and jump around in programs with their voice.
Tazti has a voice training tutorial similar to that of every other program we reviewed, allowing the computer to grow accustomed to your voice and better understand what you say. Tazti also comes with a long list of commands that immediately take you to certain programs or websites. In fact, Tazti works best as a way to quickly access your favorite websites. Tazti comes preloaded with commands that take you directly to all kinds of websites, everything from sports and weather sites to the California State Parks site and an online store for authentic Isreali items. Yeah, the list does get that weird.
Fortunately, you can also program your own commands for your favorite sites that may not be immediately covered by Tazti. This is where the program becomes particularly useful, especially if you cycle through the same set of websites every day. Of course, the argument can be made that the same thing can be accomplished with a mouse and a set of web browser bookmarks, so it all depends on how much you plan to use the voice recognition capabilities for other things.
